Session 1
Class Introduction
An introduction to the goals for and scope of this course, its instructor and students, as well as the Education Technology Leaders online learning environment.
Session 2
Learning Outcomes and Technology Integration
This class session focuses on how learning outcomes should drive the selection of technology, including how to examine learning outcomes and technologies in terms of the cognitive load they require. We apply this to teachers' instructional decision making and pedagogical content knowledge.
Session 3
Added Value and Technology Integration
This class session focuses on how technology can "add value" to teaching and learning by allowing us to accomplish teaching and learning that would be far less feasible. We examine added value in sample activities in terms of accessing data, processing information, and communicating knowledge. We apply this to teachers' instructional decision making.
Session 4
Enhancing Assessment through Technology Integration
This class session focuses on how technology can enhance the assessment process by increasing the ways teachers can "peek into" the minds of learners. We investigate assessment-centered learning environments in terms of formative and summative assessment goals. We apply this to teachers' instructional decision making as well as the accountability policies of No Child Left Behind.
Session 5
Supervision of Technology Integration
This class session focuses on instructional supervision of teachers' technology integration. We investigate a variety of specially designed integration observation protocols. We apply this to instructional mentoring and coaching models. This class session also wraps up the first third of the course by asking participants to synthesize their application papers to date into a set of technology integration support materials.
